The urge to collect sometimes arises from childhood when they are used as toys, but they can also acrue significant value over time as well and for this reason are a good investment.
Doll collectors should always keep the following in mind;
Do not go over your budget - This goes for anything, not just doll collecting. Make a note of your budget and be sure that you stick to it. You will most likely spot a doll that you really want because of its charm or because it is ultra rare, but if you cant afford it then walk away. Some dolls can fetch 4 or 5 figures especially if you are looking for reborn babies or others that are hand crafted.
Are you after a certain type of doll? - Make no mistake there are tons of different styles of dolls available. Work out if you are after a Barbie doll, baby doll, reborn baby dolls and so on.
Look at what you are buying and where from - As a doll collector you should have frequented many craft fayres already and you probably have a list of upcoming ones in your area (If you dont then now is the time to start!. Bear in mind however that many people sell items online now, it is well worth looking at what is around as not only are you likely to find some real bargains but you will also find it easier to hunt down that rare doll you have been after.
These tips will help anyone that is starting out but it is important to be able to recognize a bargain when you see one. It is not usually a good idea to buy a doll on impulse, without thinking about what you are getting. If in doubt, the seller will no doubt answer any questions you have so dont be frightened to strike up a conversation wether this is face to face or through email.
