I need info on how to best clean antique quilt blocks made of muslin & old calico prints.?
These were my grandmothers so they're probably over 65 yrs old & no telling how old the material was prior to construction of blocks. I found them in an old box & some have a 'pinkish' stain from who knows what? I'd like to finish assembling the quilt but only if the stains come out! So any ideas how to clean w/out damaging material? Thanks.
Go to your local quilt store ,NOT joann fabrics or places like that, but a real quilt store. They have soaps that are made specifically for quilts. They are extremely knowledgeable about quilts, old and new. Quilt shops are more specialized and expensive than the chain stores, but, their experience and advice is usually priceless. I have two 50+ yr old quilt tops from my great grandmother that I hand washed in a quilt soap from my local shop. Most of the stains came out. I plan to layer and quilt them. Good luck !
