Antique Glass Door

Any ideas to decorate a very long ledge in my bedroom?
The ceiling is high and also the angles down and the cornice is at the top. Is above the door and large closet, which are whitish, and it is not 3 inches of plain molding (also off-white) in the edge of the ledge. The room is painted a warm taupe and the style is old Worldish with dark woods and an old French style wooden ceiling fan carved amber glass antique dark. The room is well lit so I've kept the door, wardrobe and set-white to balance the dark forest. I really do not want a bullet-type agreement or silk / real plants, but something more to add to the architecture of the Old World feel without looking "staged" or "crafty." I have considered large metal scroll wall art, but wondered how it would look against the all white trim, etc. .. Photos suggestions or links would be appreciated. Thanks.
To increase the amount of light in the room and create a romantic, old world, some lighting hidden in the back of the ledge would be a good start. And then buy some fancy openwork square cement block garden center and get three at each end of the ledge .... two stacked on top of each other's closest to the wall and an end to his side, forming a step like arrangement at each end of the ledge as a way to create a frame. Although he did not want the plants, one located next to one of the "steps" and cascading over the edge of the cornice would an ancient world view terrace. No more should be added to give more dimension to the room.
