The predecessor of the line of porcelain Noritake, Morimura-kumi, was established in 1876 in Ginza, a suburb of Tokyo, Japan. For Therefore, a long and illustrious history began for the famous porcelain manufacturer of some of most notable in the world. With the establishment of a trading house, Morimura Brothers in New York two years later, trade between Japan and the United States was born. This store imported goods was the first of its kind for the United States fine porcelain imported from Japan.

After a visit to the Expo in Paris in late 1800, Morimura brothers was captivated by the Western table that appears white porcelain with a design. In 1904, the brothers opened a factory called Nippon Toki Kaisha Gomei in a small town near Nagoya called Noritake. From this location, a wide variety of Noritake porcelain arise with every period of Noritake porcelain mark in his own unique way.

In its early years, Noritake porcelain had a strong art nouveau air flow curves complete with trees, colors, and flowers blooming. In 1914, the company was able to export its first board of Noritake. In just thirteen years, Noritake china sets comprised over 50% of its exports, surpassing the luxury line of Noritake porcelain.

Just because the luxury Noritake line was not painted by hand does not mean that the company made porcelain in the style longer.
