Joseph asks…

I have an antique doll for sale. 1800s. German or French came back for the Boar War!?

She has a porcelain head, with jointed composite body. It is an heirloom but I no longer have anybody to leave her to, so I wish to sell. Can anybody help me with this please. (Not ebay as I don't know how to use it) My Great, Great,Great Uncle brought her back from the Boar War for my mother initially.

Ling answers:

You need to look on the back of the head for the mold number, so the buyer will know which factory this doll came from. Show a picture as well. This should help you pick up some interet in your doll.

I will be able to give you a price if you wish I do and am an appraiser. But I have to know what it looks like and the condition.

Sharon asks…

MATH HELP PLS!! inflation & % profit?

What is the effective percentage profit at time of purchase of an antique chair bought for $450, French polished for the sale of $45, and sold for $610 in 3.5 years' time? Assume an inflation rate of 6.2% p.a.

I know the equation for compound interest/inflation is A=P(1+r)^n but where do I go from here? Pls use the simplest terms to explain this because I want to understand how to do similar problems like this.

Thank you

Ling answers:

I would think you would find the FV of 450+45 and compare to $610
or find the PV of 610 - 495 = ? / 495
Using a simple time of 3.5 in my calculator, He loses about a $1
so I don't know if I am right, or there is some trick or catch. Good luck.
Maybe effective % profit is equal to inflation. I don't recognize the term.

Mark asks…

Centerpiece/Vase question?

I am getting married in April. My dad has a lilac farm and that is where the reception is going to be. I am trying to do a vintage/garden theme. My first thought was to go to antique shops and yard sales for mix/matched vases......it didn't work. So I found rustic french cans that are a brown antique color. (I have to get a dark vase because lilacs turn the water brown so I can't get clear vases) Anyway, I love them but found out they are as tall as a wine bottle, just the vase alone. Would that work? Or would it be too hard for people to see each other at the table?

Ling answers:

They sound cool and hopefully you could use a couple of them at another place, like dessert table or something, but yes, this won't work as a centerpiece.

Ling answers:

Sunrose - I work in recruitment also, and it is incorrect that your education must go at the top - there is no hard and fast rule about this. If you're a recent graduate, so you have a good education but very little work experience, then yes, your education should probably go first, but in Russell's case I wouldn't advise this, as his recent experience is more relevant to the positions he is applying for (he has said in another question that he is applying for retail positions).

But, in answer to the question ...

It's not bad. Under the RSPCA section, just have the main headings/bullet points, and leave out the information underneath it.

I don't think the education part is really detailed enough. Do you have any qualifications at all? Even GCSEs? It's just that it's not really clear what level you studied these subjects at.

Anyway, good luck, keep trying!
