Paul asks…
I am looking for replacement glass for curio cabinet?
I have a curio cabinet w/ glass door and sides. One side is missing the glass. Trying to find replacement.. 7.5" by 47" about 1/4" thick

Ling answers:
Some hardware stores cut glass for replacements (i.e. Tabletops, etc.). I had a door panel that needed to be replaced & found a co. That does window & door replacements, and they cut it to fit. Only problem, I couldn't get plate glass it had to be plexiglass (which you have to be careful not to scratch when you clean it).

Linda asks…
How do I replace the curved glass in the side of my curio cabinet?
I don't even know how to measure the curve of the glass to order a replacement piece. Also don't know the manufacturer.

Ling answers:
You'll probably have to remove it by taking the molding off from the inside. Easy to do.
If you try to order a new piece of glass for it, it's going to cost you dearly. Best bet is to look on your cabinet and see if you can find the manufacturer or if it's not too old, go to the furniture store where purchased and see if you can order a new one
Your next best option is to use plexiglass. It won't cost you nearly as much, and nobody will know.

David asks…
have you heard of a georgian curio cabinet?
I saw at a consignment store a cabinet that was marked down to 400$ from 1700$. The glass in the front was broken and a piece of the wood broke of but is easily repaired. Is this a steal or not so much? thanks

Ling answers:
A lot would depend on how much it will cost to replace the glass.

Carol asks…
Where Can I Buy A Wide (70"+) Curio Display Cabinet?
Looking for a really wide curio display cabinet. I collect HO scale model trains and need a place to display them. Most of the cabinets that I've found so far are no wider then 40 inches. It should be fairly tall as well.

Ling answers:
I worked at a local hobby shop through my high school years and the owner spent a ton of money to have custom display cabinets (7 total) made up to properly display the different trains we had for sale. When completed they were beautiful and took up two walls. The cases displayed every engine and car we had from HO to LGB size, all the customer had to do was point at the one they wanted and we pulled it from stock.
I can see your desire for a case that large as I collect toy soldiers and I don't have enough space in my cases to display everything I have accumulated over the years.
All I can suggest is to find somebody that does woodworking for a hobby and have them make one for you as I have never seen a curio cabinet that big (70"+) other than a custom job. If you supply the materials you could probably get someone to make it for a pretty reasonable price.
Best of luck.
How are the mag-clamps working for you??
