Antique China Questions About Curio Cabinet

George asks…

How do I baby proof my Curio Cabinet? Are there "bumpers" out there to help with this?

We have a large Curio Cabinet full of nick nacks. It would be very difficult for my husband and I to move it out into the garage, however, I'm sure we could find a way if need be.

My question is....Have any of you baby proofed your curio, by putting some sort of bumper pad around it? What did you do?

Probably be best just to store it out in the garage until our soon to be born baby is stable enough on his feet, but just looking to see if anyone had any suggestions to this.

Thanks so much!
Detroit...LOL Ok, cracking jokes here eh? Well how about a suggestion to go with that? :-)

Ling answers:

I know there are gates you can buy that stretch out. You can get some bungy cords and on either side of the gate, hook the bungy cord in it, and hook the other end of the bungy cord to something solid and immovable; do this on either side of the gate. If that's not a feasible thing to do because of space limitations, then before he reaches the age of pulling himself up on things, you and your husband can move the curio out in the garage until he learns the meaning of "no-no". Hope this has helped. God bless you and the little bundle of joy you are carrying. :)

John asks…

Please help me with a Curio Cabinet theme..........?

I just picked up a good size curio corner cabinet and I want a theme to artsy up my home, I was thinking so far of a Mayan/Aztec theme with plates , daggers, statues of reproduction type stuff. Or maybe Egyptian stuff?? But both are kind of hard to find stuff for the price i am looking.....Is there anything along those lines I might be able to use for a theme?? Any suggestions would be great...
thanks for the tip...... :) I will check out that online store...

Ling answers:

Egyptian themed items are probably going to be tougher to find depending on where you are in the country. If you look for Mexican themed merchandise or accessories, you will find mixed in Mayan calenders, figurines, and historical based items, etc. But, I am in SoCal, so that is very easy to find all over without paying much for any of it because there is so much competition. So look for SW stores, Mexican souvenir shops, and even some Indian stores carry items you seek. You can also check out Cost Plus World Market, either the stores or the online store because they carry goods from just about everywhere at fairly reasonable prices.

Ken asks…

Will silicon glue hold a cabinet shelf?

i have a broken cabinet shelf on a curio cabinet and i cant remove the shelf as the cabinet will lose its alignment and strength. i was thinking of using silicon glue to hold the shelf in place. any suggestions?

Ling answers:

No. It will hold the shelf, but then you have to factor in what weight you will be putting on the shelf. I would use 2 1by1 boards and cut them the depth of the shelf. Nail them to the sides of the inside of the cabinet, and then you can place the shelf right on top. To ensure the shelf from moving aroung, you can also nail the shelf to the boards.

Susan asks…

Ling answers:
