Steven asks…

where to find precious moment curio cabinet?

does anyone have any idea where I can find a precious moment curio cabinet? I'm looking for the medium to large one
this is to the one that posted there is not a precious moment curio cabinet. my sister-n-law bought one right before ourt local k's store went out of business. I have been trying to find one like her but have not had any luck in doing so. thanks for your post anyway

Ling answers:

Well,

I'm a PM collector and had never heard of the curio cabinet. I did find some options though. The first option is to build the cabinet yourself. Maybe not the best route, but could be fun. There is also a Duchess Curio Cabinet. Not specifically for PM figurines, but really nice and made for similar items. There are also other cabinets that are very nice and have a large variety. I hope this helps.

Sandra asks…

need a piece of curved glass for a curio cabinet?

Ling answers:

First try to find an identical junky cabinet you can cannibalize (good luck!).

I would suggest you call around to glass shops and find out the painful truth as to how much your special order will cost you.

It might be cheaper and easier for you to take up glass blowing and make your own LOL

Seriously tho if you find a good source consider yourself lucky!

David asks…

Ideas for my curio cabinet..Please!!?

I need some ideas for my curio cabinet. I've had pictures in it and I need a change. No offense to anyone that does this, but please don't say figurines, china, dishes or vases. They are not bad ideas they just seems very ordinary and I'm looking for something new and classy. Thank you in advance!!

Ling answers:

They are all great ideas. Why don't you find something that really interests you and put those in it. Go to thrift stores, sometimes you can find things that people have discarded or not wanting anymore. Find figurines that are not what people have. I had this glass bike and it was only 1 1/2 inches, loved it, granddaughter broke it. How about what people may call paperweights--different kinds with the bubbles or a flower or something inside that is interesting. Hope this helps. Roxanne

Sharon asks…

I have a wood curio cabinet it felt kind of sticky, maybe from smoke and etc. I washed it w/Murphy Oil Soap.?

After doing that the wood turned white colored I have tried Old English dark furniture oil on it but as soon as it dries it is white again. Help---What do I do to restore the finish now?

Ling answers:

Old varnish sometimes turns sticky. There is nothing to do for it that I am aware of other than refinishing it. It's not as hard as it sounds. Just get a Formby's kit and follow the instructions.

Lisa asks…

Great dog now scared of the Curio Cabinet....help? What can I do to let her know its okay?

I guess I should feel blessed that she is taking it out on the curio cabinet and afriad of the curio cabinet and not our other dog.

About an hour ago my dog was in the living room where the curiou cabinet was and my other dog got a little rough with her, I got onto them. But then as I come into the room, all I see is my Terrier get knocked into side of the curio cabinet and hear a big thunk.

I looked her over and she is fine. My poodle was kind of dazed as well. (Now the funny think is my Terrier is a good 10lbs bigger than my poodle)

My poodle knew he did wrong and he has basically been hiding under the bed since.

Here is where I knew there was a problem. A few minutes ago We went to the kitchen to get a bowl of water and my Terrier just stopped in front of the curio cabinet and started Growling at it. But she was like frozen in place, in that defensive mode, like she thought it was going to attack her.

She has never done this with anyone or anything. How do I let her know it won't hurt her and that it isn't real?

Again I am just glad she doesn't realize my poodle is the one who did this to her.

But what can I do to ease her fear. She has stopped and done this twice now, but the other few times she has passed by and ignored that it was there. But still that concerns me.

Is this something she will just overcome and forget about, or is this something we need to work on ASAP?

Thanks

(by the way nothing was broken in the cabinet either, I keep my wicked witch of the west collection in there so thank goodness for that)
ADD: Seriously she has no idea my poodle did this, he came out a few minutes ago and started trying to get him to play with her. But she avoids that curio cabinet when in the living room
She is a smart dog to an extent but sometimes I wonder if she isnt' the brightest crayon in the box

Ling answers:

In her dog logic, she may think that the curio cabinet caused her little bonk, instead of your other dog, because it was the cabinet that made the noise when smacked. The fear or insecurity around the cabinet will likely resolve in a short amount of time. You might see your dog approach the cabinet cautiously, sniff it, and back off a few times. The more time she spends around it without it making the loud noise the sooner she'll learn to relax around it. You don't necessarily have to do anything. In fact, I think it'll be a good process of discovery for her.
My dog was afraid of one certain tree stump we passed every day on our hike. I have no idea why it spooked her, but she growled and stared and avoided that stump for weeks. Finally, she mustered up the courage to approach it. After sniffing around it for a minute or two, she pranced away with her head held high. I think she was proud of herself for conquering the scary stump!
