Antique China Questions About Chinese Antiques

Robert asks…

Is it generally somewhat obvious determining actual Chinese antiques from the fakes/reproductions?

Ling answers:

Yes it's really easy, anyone can tell, you don't need to be ab expert or have experience. Just examine it well and its pretty clear if it is handmade or factory-made. Most stores are reputable and you can trust what the vendor says. Because China is so old many antiques that are worth thousands in the USA are so cheap in China. The best deals are found on the street where peasants that have found a special antique in the countryside somewhere try to sell them.

Antique Chinese or Japanese Robe....How can I find out if it's worth anything?

Hi Guys
I wonder if you can help at all.
I have an antique Robe which I thought I would try & evaluate. I'm not actually sure if it's of Chinese origin or Japanese. I've tried researching on the Internet to find out more about it but haven't come up with much....I wondered if maybe anyone knows of any good sites that I could search out in order to find out more about it.
It's a long shot I know but it would be a start.

I've also browsed ebay through their antiques section but they have nothing in comparison so I couldn't compare it to anything.
Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Ling answers:

Sounds like Kimono... Could be a Chinese Jacket though?

You would have to describe it to me a little better.

I can help you if you do, as this is my area of expertise but I need to know more about how it looks... Fabric, style, shape, decoration length... All that good stuff.

Sharon asks…

Ling answers:

What i did was to do some research on the internet, plenty of info up there........and later went to a few antiques dealer shops to try to sell them. These people knows their stuff well......so run along and enjoy the process of discovering whether yr antiques are worth what you think it is worth!
