Antique collectibles?

Besides finding the Antiques Road Show where could I find a respectable web site of which I could obtain proper values of collectibles such as Dolls, perfume bottles, maps and firearms?

Ling answers:

The most respectable place would be Christie's auction house or Sothesby's thought I think they merged in some business matters not long ago. You can check them online too.

How can I go about selling some antique/collectibles?

I was given these minature sailboats and they came from an antique store. I want to sell them and I need to do it fast. I am not sure how much they are worth. I have already tried craigslist and I do not want to try ebay. I hate hassles. What else can I do? I have pictures of them.

Ling answers:

99% of the handmade online marketplaces, have a vintage/antique section.Best one is Etsy, but if you don't want to limit yourself to one site,I have over 40 listed on my blog.

Donna asks…

What is the differnce between Antiquity,Antique,Vintage,Curio & Collectibles?

It is little confusing to me,I know antique is very old vintage is more then 50 years or so.But not very sure.

Ling answers:

Antiquity is a term meaning "A long time ago." and is not applicable here.
An antique is something 50 years or more old; Vintage is 25 to 50; curios are just old nick knacks (figurines and the like) and collectibles is a modern term invented by manufactures of (mostly) junk in an effort to entice people in to buying and collecting it.
Remember Beanie Babies? How some of them were going for thousands of dollars? Now you can pick them up at any yard sale for a nickel. So much fo collectables.
