Ling answers:
Try finding comparable items for sale online (ie. EBay) or stop by your local antique shop and ask for an appraisal.
You could always wait until "Antique's Roadshow" comes to a city near you as well.

Betty asks…
Why doesn't my neighbor come to my tag sales?
My next-door neighbor runs an antique and collectible business on the side. I've been trying to liquidate my mother's estate for several years now and I have many fine antiques and collectibles, but my neighbor never even comes over to look. I'm not really chummy with my neighbors, but not hostile either - just on a "Hiya" and a wave if I see them.

Ling answers:
Some antiquers don not like to buy from someone they because they feel unconformable. If the friend or neighbor would come into their shop and see how much the items were marked up they would be mad.

William asks…
I have just purchased an old antique oil, but don't know what I have. Anyone help me identify?
The painting is oil. It is very old. You can tell by the paper wrap and the wire from which it is to be hung. You can actually see the swirls of the brush in it's oil. The painting consist of alot of people in white wigs under a chandelier, playing flutes. The time period appears to be around the George Washington era with the way the figures are dressed. The lady I purchased it from said she had purchased it to display in her historical home and had made the buy from an antiques and collectible show fifteen years ago. I have searched the internet, and can't seem to find anything like it. It is framed. Does anyone have any idea of what type painting I may have? You can tell the painting is very old, but it is in excellent condition. I can't seem to find the artist inscription or signature anywhere on it.

Ling answers:
It might be worth photographing your picture and contacting one of the big Auction houses - Christies, Sothebys e.g. And asking for a valuation (they first require photos). The do valuation for free in the hope that if you sell, you will sell through them.

Daniel asks…
A hundred years from now, what types of antiques will people collect, say, from the early 21st century?
...in which we are currently living ? Seems to me there won't be much available along the lines of antiques and collectibles other than all the electronic gadgetry that's currently being built and manufactured. Hmm....Maybe by then, the antiques business will no longer exist . Whadda ya think ?

Ling answers:
The most valuable items will be the things I have thrown away.

Michael asks…
Items on the wall and baby caps?
i felt stressed and out of control and i went and got some boxes from the house i grew up in and picked through them and found these old antique collectibles, very expensive which were on the walls where I use to live and when i touched them i felt relieved, i felt better, all of a sudden i was complete again. I also found old baby clothes and one of those baby caps to keep babies heads warm and put it on my head, the one that ties around the chin, and i felt relieved when i had this baby cap on my head and was touching the baby clothes, what's wrong with me and why did this help me?

Ling answers:
Everyone gets stressed out once in a while. I don't think there isn anything "wrong with" you.
Even inanimate objects have an energy field - it's different from that of a living thing, but they still DO have one.
This is strongly influenced, though, by contact with the energy fields of those living things that have touched it. If someone went through a period of severe emotional distress and handled a particular object frequently during that period, then its energy field would reflect that and someone else who is sensitive to inanimate energy fields would find it unpleasant to the touch.
I once saw a really beautiful vase at a yard sale and was all set to purchase it - that is, UNTIL I picked it up! The moment I touched it, I felt HORRIBLE! As soon as I put it down, I felt okay, again.
The energy of these items that comforted you was about sheltering and nurturing, and you picked up on that when you touched them. The ability to do this is a rare and wonderful "talent". Rather than there being "something wrong with" you, you are a very fortunate person!
