Maria asks…
I just bought an Antique China Cabinet. The glass is missing on one side. How do I replace the glass.?
This is not the door. It's the side. From what point to what point do I measure. How do I get the glass in there?

Ling answers:
Find yourself a good "glass man." We have one in our town that replaces everything from picture frame glass to church windows. They know what they are doing and this won't be any big job for them what-so-ever. This might not be a job you will want to handle yourself since this is an antique and any damage you might do will only depreciate it's value. A good glass man can replace something like this and your piece will be as good as new.

Ken asks…
Clean glass on antique china cabinet??
I have an old antique china cabinet that was my Mother's. It probably has more sentimental value to me than actual value. Lately I have noticed the glass is really badly streaked. What is the best way to clean the glass and remove the streaks? I know some people have recommended vinegar and newpaper. Will this work on my antique china cabinet? Remember the glass is real old and I do not want to hurt it any more than it already is.

Ling answers:
Yes but the silver may need replating. The old method of creating mirror sometimes streaks and fades with time. I don't replate any of my antique silver though because it devalues the furniture. I would first try the vinegar and water method to see whether that removes the streaks (a 50-50 mix should do it) and if it doesn't they are permanent. One other hint, spray the vinegar on to the newspaper saturating it NOT directly on the glass. Sometimes the vinegar will leak into the frame around the mirror and it will eat away at the silvering on the back.
